Lower Primary Camp - Swan Valley Adventure Centre
Situated in the beautiful surrounds of the Swan Valley was a haven for the eager young Chrysalis campers. Once the dust settled after a flurry excitement during bed selection within the dormitories, 3 days of adventure began.
The children got to experience the junior ropes course (with safety harnesses attached), the commando course, very tall rock climbing, fun team games, the super zippy flying fox and an activity called the possum glider. This involved the children working together to pull on a rope and hoist their friends high into the air. Yes, more harnesses. Those with a concern for heights were certainly challenged, but all rose to the occasion in at least one of the activities.
The last day focused on locating lost socks, stuffing sleeping bags into impossibly tiny covers, sitting on suitcases and then having fun digging for artifacts and piecing together broken pots and plates.
During all of the physical activity, the children were very supportive of each other and acknowledged the achievements within the group. They spoke with heart and kindness as we debriefed after dinner and shared their feelings honestly and openly with help from the talking stick.
The children showed grace and courage throughout the camp and should be commended for their willingness to try things outside of their comfort zone.
