For students attending half days in the Children’s Houses
At Chrysalis Montessori School, we strive to meet the needs of all children in our care. We also recognise that keeping the younger children at school all day is becoming necessary for some parents. To this end, we will be offering an afternoon extended day program for those children.
The program will be firmly grounded in Montessori pedagogy and will honour the children’s need for relaxed time for eating, resting and exploration of age appropriate materials on the shelf and of the outdoor environment. Advantages for the children remaining on site are the close proximity to their classroom, familiarity with staff and an outdoor environment they are comfortable with.
Our afternoon extension program will run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12:00 to 2:45 pm.
Commencing on the 11th February and will run during the school terms.
Children staying for the extended day program are collected from their Children’s House classrooms at approximately 12:00 and are escorted to the extended day classroom, where they will have lunch, some quiet time, outdoor play and access to a carefully selected range of Montessori jobs and activities as well as a number of non-Montessori materials such as construction, play dough and blocks. Children will also have access to craft and art activities but the emphasis will be on traditional home based activities such as self-care (nail scrubbing, shoe removal, toileting, food preparation) and care of the environment (window washing, table scrubbing, sweeping, dusting) as well as a good deal of grace and courtesy (table manners, inviting others to play, taking turns, helping each other and talking). It will be as simple and homely an environment as we can create so that children can absorb the morning’s work and transition well into winding down for the end of the day at their home.
