learning together - growing together
ClassroomsEach of our classrooms are named after butterfly families or mean ‘butterfly’ in another language. Our two Children’s Houses are called ‘Triangles’ and ‘Skippers’, both butterfly families. Our two Senior Primary classes ‘Swordtails’ and ‘Spitfires’ are also butterfly families. The two Junior Primary Classes are called ‘Mariposa’ (Spanish for butterfly) and ‘Papillon’ (French for butterfly). Playgroup Chrysalis Montessori runs a Playgroup at an off-site location. For more details, please phone Chrysalis on 9444 6025. Children’s Houses The school has two classes known as ‘Children’s Houses’ which cater for three to six year olds. The children work with the Montessori materials under the direction of their teacher and the teachers' assistants. As well as this, small groups may work with an assistant or specialist teacher doing activities such as art & craft, cooking, physical skill work and music. An extended day program is offered in the Children’s House to children in the term they turn four and a half. The extended day program runs for five full days per week. Skippers – Ages 3 to 6 Primary The primary groups - senior and junior - have an age range from six to twelve years. During the mornings there is a three-hour work cycle with a focus on individual needs. The afternoon program varies from day to day and incorporates art, history, geography, science, dance, sport, and relaxation, etc. The specific program changes from term to term. The primary groups follow the Montessori curriculum as well as the WA State curriculum. Junior Primary Senior Primary
REPORTING AND ASSESSMENT Parents are encouraged to make regular appointments to discuss the progress of their child. Teachers are often available on an informal basis to discuss forthcoming events or excursions. It is more appropriate to make an appointment to discuss specific issues you may have regarding your child. In the Children’s Houses, a learning journey and an interview occur in Term 1 and Term 3. In Primary, an interview with parents is held in Term 1 and a formal report, accompanied by a student portfolio, is distributed to families in the final term. A number of support programs operate with the school and class structures. Our Curriculum Coordinator and Support Teachers work with teachers to assist in preparing programs, as well as providing school support to groups of children with similar needs. Our support staff liaise with teachers, parents and children to support the educational progress of the children. |
